Novant Health Wilmington is seeking a family physician committed to community health and resident education to be the inaugural Associate Program Director for our new rural residency track embedded in Black River Health Services Clinic and Pender Medical Center in Burgaw, NC. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of training the next generation of rural primary care physicians in North Carolina. The program has an academic affiliation with the UNC School of Medicine and the Department of Family Medicine.

 

This new program is an expansion of the well-established Novant Health Wilmington Family Medicine Residency and expands on our mission

to prepare family physicians for future full scope practice in medically underserved communities. Our group provides care for a large portion of the region’s Spanish-speaking population – candidates with Spanish language skills are strongly encouraged to apply. This position will also allow the opportunity to acquire more skills/mastery and to have meaningful work that makes a difference.

 

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Residency site leadership
  • Residents and faculty mentorship
  • Patient care at Black River Health Services
  • Clinical leadership including APP supervision
  • Advocacy for health equity

Optional practice opportunities include:

  •  
  • Inpatient care at Novant Health NHRMC and Pender Medical Center
  • Obstetric care at Novant NHRMC
  • Medical Directorship at Black River Health Services

About Black River Family Practice:

Black River is an FQHC look-alike and a full-service family practice providing affordable healthcare to residents throughout North Carolina. We are a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. We provide a broad scope of clinical care for all ages with attention to improving care of medically unserved and financially burdened members of our state. Black River is comprised of 3 clinics located in Burgaw, Atkinson, and Maple Hill, NC. The clinic portion includes a large proportion of Spanish-speaking and Migrant Farmworker care in the community. Black River partners with Manos Unidas, an organization that connects farmworkers to affordable and culturally appropriate access to healthcare.

About Burgaw:

Burgaw, NC is a small railroad town in the heart of Pender County located just north of New Hanover County. Burgaw has a vibrant downtown known for its annual Blueberry Festival, and is bordered by forests and farmlands while being 25 minutes away from area beaches.

About Pender Medical Center:

Novant Health Pender Medical Center is a critical access hospital with additional skilled nursing home beds in Burgaw, NC. We have been caring for our neighbors for more than 70 years, providing expert care and a personalized experience to area residents. Qualifications

Education: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine required
  • Completion of an accredited Family Medicine residency program required
  • 3 or more years of experience as Family Medicine faculty

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Current MD or DO license
  • Board certification or eligibility
  • Current DEA license required
